An Unexpected Gift

Last year, The WARM Place received an unexpected gift from First Christian Church of Burleson and we wanted to reach out to them to find out the inspiration…An Easter Lily in a pot.

How did you come up with this idea?
“Our church had a long tradition of ordering Easter lilies in memory of or in honor of loved ones and we used them to decorate our sanctuary on Easter morning. Last year, I thought it might be good to do something different and in lieu of ordering lilies, we asked our church family to make donations to The WARM Place.”

Why did you select The WARM Place to be the beneficiary?
“Our church is wonderful about supporting different groups with our outreach donations and since this was a new project, I wanted to support a new group and thought of The WARM Place. I became aware of The WARM Place several years ago when the Trinity Brazos Area of the Christian Church hosted a grief workshop. Reverend Roy Martin was the speaker. He did a great job explaining the different services that are provided by The WARM Place for children who are grieving. When I told my husband, who is an intermediate school counselor, what I wanted our church to do, he said he had recommended The WARM Place to families when needed at his school.”

Does the church or any church members have a personal connection to The WARM Place?
“After our church cabinet approved the idea and we announced it, several people approached me to say they knew families who had benefited from the services provided by The WARM Place and thought this was a terrific idea.”

What was the response from the congregation?
“We were so pleased with the responses from last year and have decided to do it again this year.”
-K. Gregory, First Christian Church of Burleson
