For those that don’t know you, what is your connection to The WARM Place and how did you first get involved?
In November 2023, I attended a professional development training on grief led by the incredible Dana Minor. At the time, I went with the goal of gaining insights into supporting students with grief as a school counselor. At that time, I was just a few months into my LPC associate hours and believed that I would take on everything as a therapist without having a specific niche or specialty. It had been a little over three years since my Big Mama (grandmother) passed, and the training provided so much insight, support, and resources—not just for helping others with their grief but for myself as well. It was during that session, listening to and learning from such a knowledgeable, caring, and engaging leader, that I realized grief had chosen me.
After completing the training, I promptly emailed Dana to express my gratitude for her expertise and the wisdom she shared with us. I wasted no time signing up to become a volunteer, and from that moment on, The WARM Place quickly became one of my favorite places! What truly drew me in was the incredible impact, unwavering support, and genuine care provided here. I’ve been volunteering since February, and I absolutely love it!

What has been your favorite experience/moment so far in volunteering?
Honestly, all my experiences volunteering and monitoring are meaningful to me, but if I had to pick a few favorites, two stand out. First, seeing the smiles on the faces of families as they arrive at The WARM Place is truly heartwarming. Second, having the opportunity to escort Timmy the Monkey at the A Cool Night gala event was such a memorable and special experience!
Do you have any words of wisdom to encourage others to share their time and volunteer at The WARM Place?
Absolutely! Volunteering at The WARM Place is an opportunity to be part of something truly life changing. Your time and presence can be the lifeline someone needs to begin healing.
Sharing your time as a volunteer is not just about giving—it’s about receiving the gift of connection, empathy, and purpose. You may never fully grasp the depth of your impact, but for the children and families navigating grief, your kindness and support can provide the strength they need to move forward.
Remember, you don’t need to have all the answers or be a grief expert. All that’s required is an open heart and the willingness to walk alongside others in their journey. Each moment you give can plant seeds of hope, resilience, and healing.
So, take that step. By volunteering, you’re not just changing lives—you’re becoming a part of a beautiful legacy of compassion and care.
